Y2 vs Perigon for Intelligence Briefings
Compare Y2 and Perigon for scheduled research, source links, delivery, investigation workflows, and API access before running a briefing pilot.
Evaluate Y2 when you want recurring intelligence briefings connected to your investigation workspace; evaluate Perigon when your priority is topic monitoring and briefing delivery into existing tools. Both offer scheduled intelligence, so automatic summaries alone do not decide between them.
Y2 publishes this comparison. It uses the linked product documentation reviewed September 15, 2026, rather than a hands-on speed, accuracy, or coverage benchmark. Workflow recommendations are our assessment; use the pilot below to test them against your own requirements.
The briefing workflow side by side
| Requirement | Y2 | Perigon |
|---|---|---|
| Recurring research | Custom profiles with topics and UTC schedules | Topic monitors and scheduled briefings |
| Supporting evidence | Report citations; investigate related context through Y2 tools | Cited articles and metadata in briefings |
| Delivery | Account email, eligible Elite workspace audience, SMS, or webhook according to plan | Email and connectors including Slack, Notion, Google Docs, and webhooks |
| Branding | Pro and Elite templates | Custom briefing templates |
| Integration planning | Documented REST API and separately distributed local MCP adapter | Monitors alongside a separately documented data API product |
Y2 details come from profile creation, scheduling, delivery, and plans. Perigon describes its briefing features on the Automated Briefings page. Check both vendors' current plan details for the features your pilot requires.
When Y2 fits the next step after the briefing
Y2 is designed for workflows where the reader also needs to investigate. You can use the Situation Room for source-specific context and Projects to keep private evidence, reports, chats, graphs, and a timeline around an objective. The developer hub provides the API and MCP setup paths for an external agent.
Try a concrete sequence: create a supplier-risk profile, inspect a cited development, and organize supporting material in a Project. Measure how much work it takes to reach a conclusion you can explain to a colleague.
For a new workspace, Lite covers one custom profile and in-app investigation. Pro or Elite is required to create API keys. Projects and Automation definitions remain owner-private, including inside an Elite organization. Confirm the access model before choosing Y2 for a shared case.
When Perigon fits the delivery workflow
Perigon Monitors is organized around monitoring topics and surfacing developments. Its documented briefing destinations make it a relevant candidate when the team's main need is to receive recurring updates in tools they already use.
Pilot the actual destination, topic filters, and template you intend to use. Check what the Monitors plan includes and price the complete workflow. A monitors subscription and a data API requirement should be evaluated explicitly; this article does not assume one automatically includes the other.
Delivery details that affect a Y2 integration
A Y2 webhook contains a compact completion event with report identity and API links. Your connector retrieves the full report through the Reports API. Creating the required API key needs Pro or Elite, even though webhook delivery itself starts with Lite.
Selecting Webhook replaces email and SMS for that subscription. It does not automatically send both an email and a webhook. The webhook guide documents authentication, signature verification, deduplication, and failure behavior.
For an external newsletter service or team channel, plan the connector and recipient permissions. The newsletter workflow explains what Y2 delivers and what your publishing integration owns. We do not claim native Slack or Notion delivery in this guide.
Compare the cost of the same job
Count custom topics, recipients, research cadence, API calls, and required integrations before comparing headline prices. A single-reader brief and a branded issue sent through a publisher are different workloads.
Y2 lists monthly and annual billing on its pricing page, with detailed limits in the plan reference. Review Perigon's current Monitors pricing for the equivalent topic and delivery setup. Include the time or service cost of any connector you must operate.
A one-week pilot with a clear decision
Use the same topic, language, geographic scope, and review window in both tools. Keep a short reference list of events the reviewer already knows about. A useful evaluation sheet has:
- Coverage: which reference events appeared, which were absent, and which sources explain why.
- Evidence: the original URL and passage supporting each material claim.
- Freshness: when the event occurred, when it was published, and when the brief included it.
- Review effort: editing time, duplicates removed, and statements needing correction.
- Delivery: when the report finished and when the intended recipient actually received it.
- Follow-through: how easily an analyst could investigate, retain, and reuse the evidence.
Choose the tool that meets the requirements you wrote down before the pilot. If neither covers a critical source, record that as an unresolved dependency instead of treating a polished summary as a substitute.
