When opening or extracting a malicious 7z or RAR archive containing a file entry with an excessively long path, file-roller's progress-line parsing copies the path into a fixed-size stack buffer using an unbounded string copy. This can trigger a stack buffer overflow and cause file-roller to terminate, resulting in a denial of service. To exploit this flaw, a victim must open or extract the crafted archive using file-roller.","epss":{"date":"2026-11-05","percentile":0.43327,"score":0.00505},"exploits":[{"kind":"exploit","source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/file-roller/-/issues/327"}],"kev":null,"metrics":[{"score":6.5,"severity":"medium","source":"CNA: redhat","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"}],"modifiedAt":1793926436531,"publishedAt":1787642498573,"references":[{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["vdb-entry","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-78322"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["issue-tracking","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2521767"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":[],"url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/file-roller/-/commit/ffb76dc866342cef6a4914873faaa880d14d5aa4"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":[],"url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/file-roller/-/issues/327"},{"source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","tags":["exploit"],"url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/file-roller/-/issues/327"}],"remediation":[{"kind":"workaround","source":"CNA: redhat","text":"Avoid opening or extracting untrusted 7z or RAR archives with file-roller until an updated package is installed."}],"revision":"4d9c3315a1e675a97c43298ca4ffa1a7c5e34943aff9ff253fe7c9bec0b93014","sources":[{"modifiedAt":1793926436531,"name":"CNA: redhat","retrievedAt":1793927323134,"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-78322"},{"modifiedAt":null,"name":"FIRST EPSS","retrievedAt":1793927327326,"url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-78322"}],"ssvc":{"assessedAt":1787842768689,"automatable":"no","exploitation":"poc","source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","technicalImpact":"partial"},"status":"published","title":"File-roller: file-roller: stack buffer overflow in parse_progress_line for 7z and rar handlers","updatedAt":1793927327326}
