When applying a decompressed mask during ICNS image processing, the plugin reads from the mask data buffer without verifying if the cursor exceeds the allocated resource size. If a crafted file contains a truncated mask resource, the icns_decompress function continues reading past the bounds of the buffer. This out-of-bounds read vulnerability results in information disclosure of heap contents, where memory contents are leaked as alpha channel pixel values, or a crash leading to a denial of service if unmapped memory is accessed.","epss":{"date":"2026-11-05","percentile":0.23449,"score":0.00305},"exploits":[{"kind":"exploit","source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/16528"}],"kev":null,"metrics":[{"score":7.1,"severity":"high","source":"CNA: redhat","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"}],"modifiedAt":1793916801283,"publishedAt":1785179547455,"references":[{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["vendor-advisory","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:50817"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["vdb-entry","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-66759"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["issue-tracking","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2507557"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":[],"url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/16528"},{"source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","tags":["exploit"],"url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/16528"}],"remediation":[{"kind":"workaround","source":"CNA: redhat","text":"To mitigate this vulnerability, do not open ICNS files from untrusted sources with GIMP."}],"revision":"e7201952e67a09d58f596bbf2122885d0434b871c82e9b20b3ea0f3d7a8b4b29","sources":[{"modifiedAt":1793916801283,"name":"CNA: redhat","retrievedAt":1793920142350,"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-66759"},{"modifiedAt":null,"name":"FIRST EPSS","retrievedAt":1793920154838,"url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-66759"}],"ssvc":{"assessedAt":1785180327419,"automatable":"no","exploitation":"poc","source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","technicalImpact":"partial"},"status":"published","title":"Gimp: out-of-bounds read in file-icns plugin causes information disclosure or crash on crafted icns images","updatedAt":1793920154838}
