When processing an RLE-compressed SGI image, the plugin allocates memory for a row table. The image header dimensions (ysize and zsize) are read as 16-bit unsigned integers. If a crafted file sets both dimensions to their maximum value (65535), the multiplication ysize * zsize overflows the standard 32-bit int boundary before being passed to calloc. This integer overflow issue results in undefined behavior, aborting the plugin and causing a denial of service.","epss":{"date":"2026-11-05","percentile":0.14194,"score":0.00232},"exploits":[{"kind":"exploit","source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/work_items/16494"}],"kev":null,"metrics":[{"score":5.5,"severity":"medium","source":"CNA: redhat","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"}],"modifiedAt":1793916798535,"publishedAt":1785179233384,"references":[{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["vdb-entry","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-66757"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["issue-tracking","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2507465"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":[],"url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/work_items/16494"},{"source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","tags":["exploit"],"url":"https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/work_items/16494"}],"remediation":[{"kind":"workaround","source":"CNA: redhat","text":"To mitigate this vulnerability, do not open SGI files from untrusted sources with GIMP."}],"revision":"404706590ee94e6976945b57b299b4b4d41ca3fe060092c8a7d7fac824c384af","sources":[{"modifiedAt":1793916798535,"name":"CNA: redhat","retrievedAt":1793920141136,"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-66757"},{"modifiedAt":null,"name":"FIRST EPSS","retrievedAt":1793920154928,"url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-66757"}],"ssvc":{"assessedAt":1785183670980,"automatable":"no","exploitation":"poc","source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","technicalImpact":"partial"},"status":"published","title":"Gimp: signed integer overflow in file-sgi (sgi-lib) causes the plugin to crash on rle sgi images","updatedAt":1793920154928}
