In Drupal 7, returning a non-empty header array from that hook is itself a grant of access to the file.\n\n\n\nIn versions 7.1.0 through 7.1.2, the module only delegated to other modules' hook_file_download() implementations when the file was in the private scheme. For every other scheme it returned its headers without any check. An unauthenticated visitor who appended download=1 to the URL of a file in the temporary:// scheme, or in a stream wrapper supplied by another module, could retrieve the file, overriding the access checks that would otherwise have applied. Files in the public and private schemes are not affected.","epss":{"date":"2026-11-06","percentile":0.16295,"score":0.00249},"exploits":[],"kev":null,"metrics":[{"score":8.7,"severity":"high","source":"CNA: drupal","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","version":"4.0"},{"score":8.7,"severity":"high","source":"NVD: mlhess@drupal.org","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:X/CR:X/IR:X/AR:X/MAV:X/MAC:X/MAT:X/MPR:X/MUI:X/MVC:X/MVI:X/MVA:X/MSC:X/MSI:X/MSA:X/S:X/AU:X/R:X/V:X/RE:X/U:X","version":"4.0"}],"modifiedAt":1793980518851,"publishedAt":1793404911979,"references":[{"source":"CNA: drupal","tags":["third-party-advisory"],"url":"https://www.herodevs.com/vulnerability-directory/cve-2026-110176"},{"source":"CNA: drupal","tags":["third-party-advisory"],"url":"https://d7es.tag1.com/security-advisories/file-force-download-critical-access-bypass"},{"source":"mlhess@drupal.org","tags":[],"url":"https://d7es.tag1.com/security-advisories/file-force-download-critical-access-bypass"},{"source":"mlhess@drupal.org","tags":[],"url":"https://www.herodevs.com/vulnerability-directory/cve-2026-110176"}],"remediation":[{"kind":"workaround","source":"CNA: drupal","text":"Disable the File Force Download module, avoid keeping sensitive files in the temporary:// scheme or in stream wrappers provided by contributed modules, or block anonymous requests that carry a download parameter at the web server or WAF."}],"revision":"9f09f118e97f11046fee995e5425b63b5cb2089cf2ca02cd444600d9cb588c23","sources":[{"modifiedAt":1793980518851,"name":"CNA: drupal","retrievedAt":1793981327263,"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-110176"},{"modifiedAt":1793636332027,"name":"NVD","retrievedAt":1793643478338,"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-110176"},{"modifiedAt":null,"name":"FIRST EPSS","retrievedAt":1793981327591,"url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-110176"}],"ssvc":{"assessedAt":1793980506414,"automatable":"yes","exploitation":"none","source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","technicalImpact":"partial"},"status":"published","title":"File Force Download for Drupal 7 Access Bypass via Unconditional Download Headers","updatedAt":1793981327591}
