The API function `ssh_get_hexa()` is vulnerable to a denial of service when processing zero-length input. This can be exploited remotely by an attacker during GSSAPI (Generic Security Service Application Program Interface) authentication if the server's logging verbosity is set to `SSH_LOG_PACKET (3)` or higher. Successful exploitation could lead to a self-Denial of Service of the per-connection daemon process.","epss":{"date":"2026-11-02","percentile":0.48918,"score":0.00604},"exploits":[],"kev":null,"metrics":[{"score":6.5,"severity":"medium","source":"CNA: redhat","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:H","version":"3.0"}],"modifiedAt":1793653286944,"publishedAt":1774555588313,"references":[{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["vendor-advisory","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:18160"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["vendor-advisory","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:18683"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["vendor-advisory","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:7067"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["vdb-entry","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-0966"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":["issue-tracking","x_refsource_REDHAT"],"url":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2433121"},{"source":"CNA: redhat","tags":[],"url":"https://www.libssh.org/2026/02/10/libssh-0-12-0-and-0-11-4-security-releases/"}],"remediation":[{"kind":"workaround","source":"CNA: redhat","text":"Applications using libssh should avoid passing zero-length input to ssh_get_hexa(), ssh_get_fingerprint_hash(), and ssh_print_hexa().\n\nFor the remotely reachable GSSAPI authentication path, disable GSSAPI authentication in the affected libssh-based application if it is not required, or configure that application's libssh logging verbosity below SSH_LOG_PACKET (3). These measures address the GSSAPI logging path; they do not prevent other callers from passing zero-length input to the affected functions.\n\nConfiguration and any required restart depend on the application using libssh. Changing the host's OpenSSH sshd_config or restarting the OpenSSH sshd service is not a general mitigation for applications using libssh.\n\nApply the relevant vendor update containing the fix. Upstream fixed this issue in libssh 0.11.4 and 0.12.0; distribution packages may include a backported fix."}],"revision":"033ef61262c06d3bfbb515ef072dde658759950228789b84c46e021f90dc41ba","sources":[{"modifiedAt":1793653286944,"name":"CNA: redhat","retrievedAt":1793657304669,"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-0966"},{"modifiedAt":null,"name":"FIRST EPSS","retrievedAt":1793657320856,"url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-0966"}],"ssvc":{"assessedAt":1774641142819,"automatable":"yes","exploitation":"none","source":"ADP: CISA-ADP","technicalImpact":"partial"},"status":"published","title":"Libssh: libssh: denial of service via zero-length input in ssh_get_hexa()","updatedAt":1793657320856}
